Phanus grandis is said to be a very rare species that flies in Central America, Venezuela and Colombia ; there is no known record in Ecuador. we did not expect to see it at the Southern limit of Sangay NP, very far from Colombia, and we found a few in the NP, between 1100 and 1600 meters.
