Caligo illioneus subspecies are seriously questionable, and, to compound the problem, it is quite impossible to tell C. illioneus from C. teucer if you cannot see the upperside of the wings.
this species flies usually at moderate elevations, but on both sides of the Andes.
seen at Archidona, Tena and farther South.
