we do not know this Mechanitis pictured by Andrew Neild just South of Tena.
on butterfliesofamerica the closest phenotype is undoubtedly the type of M. mazaeus mazaeus photographed by K R Willmott at the BMNH ; but this butterfly would not be mazaeus, it should rather be messenoides because :
- the FW orange postmedial band is not produced in cell M1
- there are no white dots on the HW margin
- but, on this same HW margin the black "waves" are more mazaeus than messenoides ?
