Moschoneura pinthous, 20 km South of Tena, Loreto road 700 m, West of Yasuni.
in the early days of our Sangay NP site we wrote : "Moschoneura pinthous is a higjly variable species that flies in most of South America except in the mountains ; seen near Puyo it is ssp ela, further South we found ssp ithomia, but we do not know where is the limit between the two ssp".
since that time we've seen that, in Sangay NP as well as in Ecuador North East, there is no geographic limit between these two ssp, and a third ssp "monica" also flies in the same area.
so, until a revision is available, we treat these three taxons as separate species.
